Finally made it to Mitsuwa today. Lei--one of the lab's post-docs and Asian foodie extraordinaire--told me about it a month ago, and I've been trying to find an opportunity to get there. My parents were in the city to pick us up for the Memorial Day weekend so it was the perfect opportunity to drive into New Jersey and try the best ramen noodles in the tri-state area, to paraphrase Lei.

I got the salt ramen, pork rice, and boiled egg combo meal. The ramen had two nice slices of pork belly and one of those pink fish cake slices with the spiral in it. The broth was awesome. I've never had anything like it before. Kind of milky, really savory, but not over salty. I'll get it again the next time I go. Mabel got a pork katsu feast. My mom got udon with tempura, and my dad got ramen with extra pork. Our meals were between $6-11.

Overall, pretty great. I don't think it's worth renting a Zipcar and driving there, but only because there's a $2 shuttle from the Port Authority and parking was a mess. I think we'll opt for the shuttle the next time.

There's also a pretty good supermarket attached to the food court. I found 5 different types of tuna. I'll list them here. Sashimi-grade tuna, medium fatty toro, super fatty toro, genuine blue fin, and genuine blue fin super fatty toro. The genuine blue fin super fatty toro was $70 a pound, a bargain compared to what you pay in a restaurant. But, alas, we didn't have a cooler. I will return.
