Miami 2010

This post originally took place in November 2010.

Mabel and I both had the weekend before Thanksgiving free. It was the first weekend since June that we had a free weekend together.

We went to Miami.

We flew Spirit airlines to Fort Lauderdale and drove down to Miami Beach. That airline is cheap, but they make you pay for your carry-on ($30 each). And they charge extra for you to choose a seat, any seat, when you check in from home. It felt like a joke. Not a very good way to manage expectations.

Aside from that it was a great trip. We stayed at the Gansevoort and hung out by the pool a lot.

I like Miami. People are more laid back. It's easy to chill out.

This article from the Times was our food guide. We ended up eating two meals in the design district. Dinner was at a tapas place called Sra. Martinez. The interior felt like a theatrical Spanish patio. We ate at Michael's Genuine Food for brunch the next day. They make homemade pop tarts and this awesome pig ear salad. It was all good.

We couldn't get an ocean view room, but I enjoyed our view of Miami.
