Puerto Rico Day 1: 1/4/13

As usual, we packed at the last minute before heading off to our flight for San Juan. The flight was delayed and DirectTV wasn’t working but then JetBlue refunded us $15 for the trouble. We stopped by the Sheraton to drop off David’s poster and a bag of luggage and then to Old San Juan where we checked in to Hotel Milano, an okay place whose greatest merit is being in the heart of Old San Juan.

We got a solid seafood tower at Aguaviva: ceviche, good oysters, mussels, and shrimp.

We took a stroll around town, passed a square dedicated to Columbus (surprisingly reminiscent of our own Columbus Circle), and spotted some quietly roosting pigeons.

We went to the Nuyorican early to get seats and caught the tail end of a drumming circle that reminded us how much we liked the Buena Vista Social Club back in college. The main event was a salsa band with trombone players.

It was pretty good salsa. The Nuyorican was packed. We took it in while sipping Medallas.
