Locanda verde

Made it out on a Tuesday night. Mabel loved it. Highlights were the figs in an arugula salad. The steak tartar was exceptional. The hazelnuts made it. Pastas were perfect. Mabel got a squid ink linguine (mabel appreciated the citrus) and I got a duck pasta made with little trumpets. Cherry semifreddo was really good with what seemed to be house made preserved cherries.

I don't think we've been to dinner in TriBeCa, except for one time to Nobu Next Door about 10 yrs ago. The crowd is very different from the village or upper west side.

Empellon Cocina

Dinner with Ben D last week. First meal after resolving to eat out more often with a year left in New York.

The food scene downtown has changed a lot over the last 5 years. Empellon has the casual quality that was rare several years ago. Highlights of the meal were thinly sliced cloud-like mango with multiple layers of flavors that unfolded over many seconds and finished with hot spiciness; a "Scottish" egg soft boiled, covered in a tasty layer of something, and deep fried; and a dramatic squid dish.
