Empellon Cocina

Dinner with Ben D last week. First meal after resolving to eat out more often with a year left in New York.

The food scene downtown has changed a lot over the last 5 years. Empellon has the casual quality that was rare several years ago. Highlights of the meal were thinly sliced cloud-like mango with multiple layers of flavors that unfolded over many seconds and finished with hot spiciness; a "Scottish" egg soft boiled, covered in a tasty layer of something, and deep fried; and a dramatic squid dish.
